Computers must have Tamil language software also: Dayanidhi










Coimbatore: Union Minister for Textiles Dayanidhi Maran today appealed to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to introduce a law that Tamil language software should be made available in all computers being sold in the state.

Addressing the inaugural function of the Tamil internet exhibition at World Classical Tamil Conference here Maran said a situation should prevail where people who had knowledge of Tamil also can handle the computer without any difficulty. He said at present only people who had knowledge of English could handle a computer.

Lauding the fact that Tamilians were at the forefront in the software field working in all IT companies, the Textile minister said a new, easy Tamil language software should be developed in the state and made available for all government administration systems.

He said there were over 6000 languages in the world. But over 50 per cent of the languages were vanishing. Quoting a research work, he said every week, three languages were vanishing. On the other hand, Tamil was spreading all over the world.
