Home guards to assist police during Tamil conference















Walls in Coimbatore get a slice of Tamil history, ahead of the World Classical Tamil Conference in Coimbatore.


A total of 1,500 Home Guards will assist Tamil Nadu police during the five-day World Classical Tamil Conference, starting here from June 23, a top Home Guard official said on Saturday.

The guards would help police in maintaining law and order, regulating traffic and other security duty, S.K. Dogra, ADGP and Additional Commandant in General, Home Guards, Tamil Nadu, told reporters here.

Home Guard units were being formed in all the districts in the State in a phased manner and they would be trained in the Training Centre at Udhagamandalam, he said

Stating that 11,000 home guards were in the State, Dogra said a data base of the force was being created.

On modernisation, Dogra said the personnel were being given gadgets and equipment and the department was taking the cue from other States on development and modernisation of the force.
